The Australian Advocacy Institute

Dedicated to excellence in advocacy

The Hon. George Hampel AM KC - 1933-2024

It is with great sadness that we note the passing of The Hon. George Hampel AM KC, the founding Chair of the Australian Advocacy Institute and progenitor of advocacy skills training in Australia and into the common law world.  George’s conviction that good, effective advocacy is a skill which can be taught through practical workshops led to the establishment of the Australian Advocacy Institute.

His enthusiasm and dedication to the development and enhancement of how advocacy skills are taught has left the AAI at the international forefront of advocacy training.  Generations of students, advocates and advocacy trainers have been the beneficiaries of George’s knowledge and enthusiasm for improving the standards of advocacy at all levels.

George was a role model, mentor and friend to many of us who will remember him with great fondness.

The AAI extends its sympathies to his wife Felicity and his family.
